Book review: Feel the fear and do it anyway by Susan Jeffers

I was kindly given this book by my friend Sunita (of Lucky Things Blog), she highly recommended it! I’m so glad she did as it’s a brilliant book. It helps you understand and break down any fears you may have. It helps you identify those feelings and help you process them in a positive way. I love real life examples she uses to illustrate her points in a clear and engaging way.

“All you have to do to diminish your fear is to develop more trust in your ability to handle whatever comes your way”
Susan Jeffers

My biggest takeaways from the book are:

The ‘No-lose Model’
where no matter the decision you make, there are good things that can come from it. This is going to be a game changer for my decision making.

Pain to Power
You can turn your pain into power and take away the fear that you’ll make the wrong choice. It encourages you to recognise how you’re feeling, but move forward anyway.

Practice Positivity
The idea that like yoga, you don’t just do it you practice it. It needs commitment and a great deal of practice, and must be maintained.

“Positive words make us physically strong and negative words make us physically weak.”
Susan Jeffers

Here are some of her tips and a couple of mine.

Tips of how to practice being positive

  • Listen to positive podcasts

  • Surround your self with positive people

  • Read books on positivity, which you can underline and write in.

  • Create index cards or post it notes with messages of positivity from others or from yourself
(I have a few around my desk).

Here are some of Susan’s favourite positivity quotes.

“Ships in the harbour are safe, but that’s not what ships are built for”- John Shedd

“The best way out is always through” - Helen Keller

“I’m not a failure if I don’t make it… I’m a success because I tried” - Unknown

“Considering how dangerous everything is, nothing is really very frightening” - Gertrude Stein

And of course

“Feel the fear and do it anyway” - Susan Jeffers

Thank you Susan for such a brilliant book, and to Sunita for giving it to me. I will practice my positivity to get stronger.
